ADHD and Your Relationship: A Couples Assessment
ADHD may be part of your relationship story.
When the same arguments keep coming back, it can be hard to understand what's happening between you. ADHD and other forms of neurodivergence can influence communication, emotional responses, follow-through, and shared responsibilities.
This couples assessment is designed to help you recognize patterns, understand each other's experiences, and begin more meaningful conversations about your relationship.
You Can Care About Each Other and Still Feel Stuck in the Same Pattern.
At Empower Family Therapy, we understand that couples can get caught in cycles of frustration, reminders, defensiveness, and hurt.
Neurodivergence can affect how partners communicate, manage responsibilities, process emotions, and respond to everyday challenges. Understanding these differences can help you approach relationship struggles with more curiosity and less blame.
What Can the Assessment Help You Explore?
The assessment invites you to look beyond individual disagreements and consider the experiences and patterns that may be affecting your relationship.
Follow-Through and Shared Responsibilities
How everyday tasks, expectations, and responsibilities affect your relationship.
Mental Load and Reminders
How remembering, organizing, and managing daily demands can shape interactions.
Emotional Responses
How criticism, frustration, and perceived rejection can affect each partner.
Intimacy and Connection
How attention, transitions, sensory experiences, and daily stress may influence closeness.
Relationship Expectations
How different experiences and interpretations can contribute to recurring disagreements.
The goal isn't to decide whose perspective is correct. It's to better understand what each partner may be experiencing.

How to Use the Assessment
Take time to answer honestly, without trying to guess what your partner might say.
Step 1: Complete It Separately
Each of you fills out the assessment on your own and answers from your own experience.
Step 2: Compare Your Answers
Notice where you see things similarly and where your experiences differ. Both are worth understanding.
Step 3: Stay Curious
Use the differences as an invitation to learn about each other, rather than proof that one person is right.
Take the Next Step Together
Completing the assessment is a starting point, not the end of the conversation.
Once you and your partner have completed it, you can explore your responses together and consider what each of you may be experiencing beneath the patterns.
If you'd like support understanding your results and finding ways to move forward, Claudia would love to walk through the assessment with you.
