About St. Clair M.
As a therapist who works with youth, adolescents, and young adults, I help clients who have experienced challenges associated with trauma, depression, grief, anxiety, and behavioral issues. My previous clinical experience involves working with youth, teens, and young adults within several nonprofit mentoring organizations and schools. With my experience as an educator, Mentor, Program and Recreational Director in Chicago and Oak Park Public School Districts, my background and skill-sets have allowed and positioned me to interact, understand, and connect with people from various backgrounds.
Being an individual who genuinely cares for the well-being and feelings of others working toward healthy living, I am passionate about providing the support individuals need in navigating through mental, physical, psychological, and behavioral challenges. I am adamant about creating a safe and judgment free space that accompanies my style of therapy that explores clients’ full potential.
My unique and authentic approach to therapy stems from being the expert of my own experience and author of my own story. My love for therapy began in undergraduate school after losing my college roommate to gun violence. Therapy assisted me in alleviating the anxiety and depression that at one point dominated my thoughts. My own experience of trauma, grief, depression, and discrimination led me to become a therapist, and to specialize in helping others face similar struggles. While I enjoy working with clients from all backgrounds due to my multicultural competence, I have a strong passion for working with African American communities, as my lived experiences help bring an added layer of understanding and connectedness.
Using numerous approaches to best fit each client, some of my therapy approaches include Mindfulness, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Existential Therapy and Solution-Focused interventions. Complimenting my therapeutic approaches, I believe that adopting physical fitness into one’s daily life can also lead to greater mental health and I enjoy incorporating these goals and discussions into therapy.
I will challenge and empower clients to think and dig deeply beyond the surface of their challenges to find clarity and to resolve deeply rooted difficulties. I strongly believe that therapy is a collaborative effort that can evolve into a trusting therapeutic relationship resulting in healthier coping skills, effective healing, and enhanced ability to meaningfully process adversity.
I received my Masters of Science in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from National Louis University in Chicago, IL and received my Bachelors Degree in Communication from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in Champaign, IL. When I am not providing therapy, I make sure to spend time in the gym, walking my dog, and watching and attending some sports events!
“I am adamant about creating a safe and judgment free space that accompanies my style of therapy that explores clients’ full potential.”
